The Wonders Of Gardening

It’s been about three weeks since we planted the garden and it’s getting exciting as the seeds are all sprouting! Gardening blows my mind! I find it just mesmerizing watching your garden grow. Every morning I have to check it out and see what’s new. It’s that feeling of Christmas morning – every day.

I’d say about 3/4 of our garden is now planted from seed. In the beginning we only planted plants, then we realized how much cheaper planting by seed was and that it was possible! Someday I aspire to plant seeds from our own plants but I’m not there quite yet, so we buy packages of seeds to plant.

By seed we plant, corn, cucumber, carrots, beans, peas, beets, radishes, basil, cilantro, parsley, and thyme. We still plant tomatoes, peppers, celery and zucchini and onions in starter plant form but hoping to start doing these by seed too someday. If we have any left over potatoes from the year before I will plant those but that is rare so we buy bags of planting potatoes. We plant so many potatoes they have a garden bed to themselves.

This year we’ve started a new garden bed for plants that will return each year. Our neighbor was so kind to give us chives and garlic and we’ve planted rhubarb too.

With all these seeds the garden doesn’t look like much after we’ve planted it. The satisfaction starts a few weeks later when those first few sprouts appear, and then I’m in heaven!  And to think we’ll be eating from this garden probably within the month!

The last 2 pics are both of the bean sprouts taken a day apart – look at how much growth!
